Arthur was the son of Frank Scott Church and Millicent Hollister Cartter. He was also the nephew of Calvin Church. He married Phoebe Ingersoll in Utica in 1896. They moved to Bay City, but returned to Utica in 1906. He became a partner of his Uncle Cal in the Church & Church Lumber Company. During WW I he purchased a flour mill in Warren, but still lived in Utica. In 1932, he sold the Warren business and opened a service station in Utica. He took great interest in civic affairs. Arthur served as village president, councilman, chairman of the building committee of the Congregational Church and a Justice of the Peace. For many years he lived on Pontiac Street (Utica Road) in the old Laurence house, across from Church & Church Lumber Company [source: Kim Kaplan - fixitwoman@mediaone.net - 5 Jan 2002].
