Roger finished high school at Hixton (WI), was interested in farming and worked with his father on the home farm and with the cattle show herf on the State Fairs circuit. After his father died in 1937, the farm was taken over during the depression years by the Federal Land Bank.

Roger married in 1940 and worked with his Uncle Byron Curran on his farm for ten years. His interest was always centered on dairy cattle so he went into farming on his own. He and his oldest son John and their families formed a corporation and farmed about 400 acres in Jackson County near Taylor. They lived about five miles from the old Cartter farm under the farm anme "Curran's Little HIll Farm." He was very active in Farm Bureau and Cooperative organizations at both county and state levels.

VIvian's home was Hixton. She attended Stevens Point State Teacher's College and taught home economics for several years after their marriage. SHe too was very active in community, school, and women's organizations.
