Happy Birthday, Marines!

November 10th, 2008 . by Cary

Two hundred and thirty three years ago, the United States Marines Corps was founded in Tun Tavern. From the initial mission of guarding the sailing ships of the fledgling United States Navy to the current mission of being an elite, multi-environment superior fighting force, the United States Marine Corps has proven time and again that they are the best.

Post-Election Round Up

November 6th, 2008 . by Cary

Oddly enough, the sun came up again today, disproving several doom-sayers with their predictions of the election outcome.

In case you were wondering, here were my predictions (better late than never, eh?):

1. The Bible will still have all the answers.
2. Prayer will still work.
3. The Holy Spirit will still move.
4. God will still inhabit the praises of His people.
5. There will still be God-anointed preaching.
6. There will still be singing of praise to God.
7. God will still pour out blessings upon His people.
8. There will still be room at the Cross.
9. Jesus will still love you.
10. Jesus will still save the lost.

So, I think I’m in pretty good shape, overall. Let’s get to the Round Up, shall we?

Special Mention:
Stop over at CPT Rob Yllescas and catch up on his condition. CPT Yllescas is the victim of an IED in Afghanistan and is currently stateside receiving the best care possible. Leave a note of encouragement for his wife, Dena.

(Heavy Sigh)

November 5th, 2008 . by Cary

Thank goodness, the election cycle has come to a resolution.

I won’t say that I am happy with the result, but we do have a clear cut result. No one will be talking about how this election was stolen.

I watched one speech this week – it was McCain’s speech at the Biltmore late Tuesday evening – and it was honest, straight forward, and (IMHO) unifying.

But Cary!” you are probably saying, “Didn’t you want McCain to win?”

Not as much as I wanted Obama to NOT win, if you get my drift.

Re-read the tagline under the title of this blog – the one in red, up where the picture is. Done? Good. Conservative by Nature – neither candidate was conservative, so much for that angle; Christian by Choice – as a Christian, I prayed for a peaceful election, for guidance in how to vote, and that the Lord’s will be done (as Christians are directed to pray). I can’t say I agree with how it turned out, but I am satisfied that it turned out the way God wanted it to.

If you have read the Bible any at all, you will realize that there are many times that God uses someone (not necessarily one of His own) to affect a course of action. The best example I can think of is Pharaoh – if he hadn’t persecuted and then chased the Israelites, where would the Nation of Israel have ended up? And, having defeated the Egyptian army, who was crazy enough to stop the Israelites after that?

God uses who He wants, when He wants. I am confident that whatever happens in the near future, God will have already laid it out. After all, Christians know how the story ends – and we know Who wins.

Will it be comfortable? No. Will it be easy? No. Will it be worth working through? You bet your sweet bippy – one thing is for sure, this nation won’t put up with more than four years of Obamunism. I have been asked if I thought there would be an assassination attempt on Obama – my answer is, I wouldn’t bet against it, but it’s not a for sure thing.

Above all, remember that this too shall pass.

You may find this hard to believe, but this will be the last you hear me speak ill of the President Elect. Once he is sworn in, he is the leader of this country. As such, I will not contribute to the division of this country by naysaying the President. I may express an opinion different from his (ok, this will probably happen every time he opens his mouth) but I will not outright decalre that he is not fit for the job. His being in that office is God’s movement, and it will be for the overall good of this country, even if it means this wountry gets torn apart for a while.

Army CPT Rob Yllescas

November 4th, 2008 . by Cary

First things first – I certainly hope that you have, or are going to, exercise your RIGHT and your RESPONSIBILITY to VOTE. Too many have volunteered to allow your voice to be heard. Many who volunteered made the Supreme Sacrifice. Do Not Waste Their Lives.

On that subject: Army CPT Rob Yllescas’ family has taken the time and energy to publish a blog about their warrior. CPT Yllescas was wounded by an IED in Afghanistan. The long and short of it is he is now a double amputee and his family will be with him while he heals.

I am asking those of you who do so to pray for the family of this soldier. I know, there are soldiers every day who are wounded, and they all need prayer.

I pray for them everyday. However, it’s not too often you run across a blog about them, and when you know the recipient of the prayer by name, it becomes a more personal battle.

To the Yllescas family: Thank you for sharing the news.

To CPT Yllescas: Thank you for your service, sir.
