This is puzzling to me, on several fronts. First, let me assure you I am aware the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty. However: There is footage of Laughingboy pulling the gun and pulling the trigger. He hasn’t manned up, that I know of, and taken responsibility for his actions (ie, confessed) but there are enough eye witnesses to the events of January 8, 2011 in front of the Tucson Safeway that there is no doubt about who did what.

Yes, the headline says Laughingboy pleads, and in the article it clarifies that the judge entered the plea for Laughingboy at his lawyer’s request, but what do you expect from an industry that doesn’t always get it right the first time?

And, if you don’t mind my asking, what kind of a self-respecting lawyer would take on this case as Laughingboy’s defendant? Oh, wait – never mind. Anyone who has built her career by defending Ted Kaczynski, Susan Smith, and Eric Rudolph is probably looking at this as another feather in her resume…

Yes, I am being harsh. Yes, I am aware that she is the best defense attorney for the accused if they don’t want the harshest sentence. Yes, I know I am being hardheaded about this. Lord, forgive my attitude, help me to understand these things.

please note: the link may or may not work, i’ve had trouble with links from azcentral.com. i also know of some self-respecting attorneys, so forget the “no lawyer is self respecting” jokes – we’ll have a special forum for lawyer jokes later. some of my best lawyer jokes have come from lawyers. this whole scenario would be moot if just one person had exercised their second amendment right, and we would be hailing a hero instead of mourning so many victims. remember, it is up to you to provide for your own defense – the police are really good at securing a scene so evidence can be collected, but they cannot be everywhere to protect everyone at all times.

The household is still asleep, except for the cats (who seem to be awake when we are not, but that’s a story for another post) and I am standing on the driveway, holding the morning paper in my hand. I glance at the front lawn, decide that tomorrow is, indeed, the day that I need to rake up the detritus of winter, when I hear an insistent honking. I look up, for it is not a mechanical sound, but a natural one. As the lone goose nears and passes overhead, the pitch changes, dropping slightly as the Doppler effect is demonstrated, then the honking fades slower as he continues south.

A comment I made a couple days ago indicated that there were many posts that never got published. That would be because they come to me while I am driving and … well, you know how dangerously idiotic it is to try to post by phone while you’re driving. Not that everyone around me isn’t being dangerously idiotic while driving in Phoenix, but I figure ONE of us should be paying attention to the road.

Yes, that’s one of the many subjects that would be posted about regularly.

My earworm right now is “Last Night I Heard The Wolves” as performed by the BareNaked Ladies on one of the kids’ cds we have playing in the store.

I tried to find a youtube of the song, or even the group – but “bare naked” seems to scare the filters.

OK – I’m off. I’ve gotta get working on at least one of the many projects that have stacked up.

ANYways – what was I going to talk about? – Larry mentioned that my last post was a miracle (it’s in the comments – those of you who drop in from Facebook should really visit this place in person – much cooler, and you can leave comments directly on the blog, so all my readers can share in your insight) so I thought, since I have a later start time this morning, I would try to get a second post in.

And then I resolved to myself that I would quit hitting the snooze on my 0600 alarm, maybe even set it earlier, and do some blogging and some exercising, you know, get in better shape, keep this thing active, maybe even get the railroad blog rolling again and look at helping McQuire and Murphee keep the toy blog going …

… and then I rolled over and hit the snooze button.
