Really?

March 31st, 2011 . by Cary

Really? I mean, really?

This is a shot of the remote reader for the backyard thermometer. Top figure is outside, second down is inside. Then the time (Mountain Standard Time), last line is the date and day. Took the shot with my camera phone, not too bad of quality for a snapshot. Here it is March, other parts of the country are getting snow fer cryin’ out loud, and I’m sitting here waiting for the sun to go down so I can work in my garage.

Sheesh.

On a side note – today marks what would have been Dad’s 83rd birthday. He passed away in 1992, at the tender age of 64, on the morning of Mom and Dad’s 42nd wedding anniversary. I still miss you, Pop. I always will.

Two Fer Tuesday

March 29th, 2011 . by Cary

First – and most important – tomorrow, March 30, is Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day. Find one. Welcome him or her home. Mean it. In 1973, on this date, was the official withdrawal of all troops from Vietnam. The welcome they got then was tainted by the very vocal protesters who jeered, booed, spat upon and denigrated these heroes. These men and women placed their lives on the line, and that was the welcome they got. (i had a cousin who, until the day he died, stayed holed up in his room because of the ‘welcome’ he got.) Tomorrow, by and Act of Congress, it is officially Wlecome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.

Find one. Or two. Thank them.

Profusely.

And mean it. They deserve that much.

Second – from the mailbag, put as much thought into this as you wish. It was attributed anonymously to an anonymous source in the Czech Republic.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

In this case, I think that we have gotten the government we deserve. Let’s raise our standards a bit next time around, shall we?

Friday, right? So, you are wearing red to support your troops, right? Seems a Facebook group has cropped up to spread the word also … I’ve been doing this for how long now? Well, better late than never!

When Mayors Attack

March 24th, 2011 . by Cary

You might remember my conversation with a certain Texas Mayor (who, by the way, never did answer the question) that got his knickers in a twist. Seems Texas is having an outbreak of some type, what with the Mayor of Rowlett, Texas getting his knickers in a twist when he was called on a procedural issue that led to a nasty little public face off. Head over there to Fred’s place and read all about it. I’m not going to get directly involved in this one, but I would like to ask all you voters out there to do at least as much research on your own local politicos as needed, before just rubber-stamping them back into office.

Remember, political office was envisioned as a duty to be shared by all, not a career path to be taken by a few.

In other news – the City of Phoenix is experiencing more fiscal overages, as their recent citing of my Pastor for having a Bible study at his house attests. No, not the original citing two or three years ago – this is a fresh, brand new one. Won’t the city be surprised to find out that they are going to be sued in Federal Court for violating the First Amendment rights of a private citizen? I’ll bet they suddenly plead fiscal inability to defend themselves, what with the rotten economy right now, in spite of being able to pursue a vendetta against a private citizen …

My Day “Off”

Slept in – until 0700 – I should have been up at 0630, for Cinnamon’s insulin shot with her food. Puttered around so far, filling time before 0930 haircut. And boy, do I need a haircut. I’m starting to look like a long-haired hippie freak. After that, I’ve got five cabinets to assemble and finish – all wall cabinets, but one is a corner cabinet. Neat trick, corner cabinets – if one thing is not perfectly square, then the whole cabinet looks wrong. And that includes the wall itself. I’ve got some adjustment designed into it, but the cabinets are frameless, which takes away a lot of the give and take.

For those of you within the panic zone that is the Misnforming Silly Media, here’s a link to some information that you should find comforting: A Nuclear Primer. Caution – he was a sailor, so his language is a little – uhm, saltier – than what I allow on this site. (tip of the hat to Larry for the link to the Primer.)
