What To Do?
July 18th, 2006 . by CaryWell, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m kind of tired. I’ve cranked out a couple of Bill Whittle-esque entries, and all that venting has wiped my brain. Thus the no-brainer entry yesterday.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s lots of stuff to blog about, especially in such a target-rich environment as the world today – obliviots, morons, meatheads, politicians (oops, repeated myself there) – but I seem to be empty of words right now.
Not to worry – I am sure that something will tweak my senses again in the next day or two, and then I’ll be off and running again.
Me? Not much – I have been working on learning how to play the bass guitar for the church’s praise and worship team. The key there is working – I know where notes are on the piano, I know how to play trumpet (although it’s been a few years since I’ve puckered), but trying to translate that information to the bass guitar is … well, interesting would be one way to put it.
I still sing; in fact, I would be considered a vocalist before any other kind of musician-related “label” but the need is strong for those of us leading p&w to show that we are not limited to singing along with the CD player in front of the congregation.
And, since it’s the middle of July, we need to start working on our Christmas program. What fun!
Well, God bless you all, and go visit some of the people on the blogroll. Tell ’em I said “Hi!”

America No Longer Exists?
making sure that we are following God’s Law and the law of the land?
I do not understand? What if we are not Christian, to make us follow this law, would this be fascists in nature, much like the liberals you claim are bias and fascists? I do understand that this country was founded on Christian principles, but there is no mixing of church and state so I find this confusing.
You speak of defending, but from whom? Do we even have an army to attack? Do we have a face to the enemy? How can we kill an ideal? I have said this before, as I will say now… for every one we kill, another two rises or so it seems. How are we to win?
These are questions, nothing more.
But they are good questions, so I will do my bext to give you satisfactory answers.
If you are not Christian, then I do not expect you to follow God’s Laws, anymore than you should follow Shari’a if you are not muslim. On the other hand, the majority (I am sorry I don’t have an exact percentage here) of the laws in this country are based on the Ten Commandments. To make you follow a set of laws you do not believe exist, would indeed be facist.
There is mixing of church and state. What there is not is the state establishment of a religion, setting that one religion as the religion of the land. The first amendment makes sure of that. The ACLU has twisted the words of the First to say that church and state must not be mixed, but what it says is that no religion is to be established by the state, and no one is to be prevented from practicing or observing the customs of their religion. Freedom OF religion, not freedom from religion.
Defend the ideals from those who would pervert them. Do not allow anyone to twist the words to new meanings; call them on it. Make them define what they are saying, hold it up to the light of truth (not the convenient truth, but absolute truth – is this true? can it be proved? is this what was meant when it was first said?)
My beliefs tell me that no, we will not win – in the short run. Evil will overrun every bastion of truth and defense that can be mustered. But in the end, in the ultimate end, God will return to this earth of his creation, call His own to him, and destroy everything else, including the evil nature of man.
Overall, I’m not worried, but I would rather it didn’t happen on my watch. TO that end, I will remain vigilent towards the usurping of the ideals this country was founded on.
Does that answer your questions? Or does it raise more? Please, enter into a dialouge – that’s the only way to expand our horizons, and if I am wrong, please help me learn.
There were at one time in this country what they called ‘blue laws’. These laws, for example, would keep a store from opening on a Sunday so people would go to church instead of the market… Most of the blue laws are now gone and I do not see bands of Christians rioting to reinstate them.
Same thing goes with the abortion issue. If you ask them I don’t think most Christians would be in favor of making abortions totally illegal. They would like to see some limits put on the operation like children having to have parents consent and no partial birth abortions.
Many times I’ve read posts on blogs that clain the Christian community wants to establish a Theocracy. – Balderdash. – I’ve challenged some of these folks to go to any church in any town and ask the pastor if he is working to establish God’s law as defined by the Bible into the government.
most of the pastors I know would answer that they are trying to help individuals to have the Spirit of God work in their lives and not working to make up/establish laws of men to rule over them. Christianity is an internal, individual thing… Quite a bit of difference.
Well said; both of you.
You have answered my questions. I am impressed. As the guy that posted before me -Jarhead- well said.
Only one more question/statement: I am not trying to be rude, but is it your age (Carry, Prying1 ?) that made you humble? I can not think of what else it could be.
Reason for asking said question:
I read a lot of conservative and liberal sites. Both claim to the extreme the other is wrong and never stop blaming the other. I would ask questions in a similar light to them that I have asked you, the response is nearly not as… kind. The other bloggers who report politics are younger closer to my age.
The both of you have my respect.
It’s not rude, in the manner you asked; it is a seeking of grounding for your information. Full disclosure: Before I answered your first questions, I went and checked out your profile. The level of intelligence in your question belies your age, at least, compared to your age-group peers (which are different from your intellectual peers).
As to your last (latest?) question: speaking only for myself, my humility comes from the Lord; He has taught me that to elevate myself above others is to set myself up for failure. If I admit to myself that I am only human, a learning being, then I will learn; I have some pretty strong opinions, and I will hold them as long as I can but if solid evidence contrary to what I beleive is presented, I will change my opinion. It also helps to survive some pretty humblimg experiences – military service will humble you faster than anything short of God reaching down and getting your attention; facing your mortality and living to tell about it more times than you care to count just really focuses who you are, and how insignificant you can be.
But mostly, through all of this, God’s lessons in humility are the most loving and sometimes most painful but always the most rewarding.
Shouting “I’m right, you’re wrong” at the top of your lungs doesn’t make you right, it only makes you loud. Extemeism is the best way to make the argument for the other side – reference Howard Dean’s work for the Republican party.
I hope to see you around here often, forneus. I love the regulars here, since we all see things along the same lines; but having someone like you come in and ask WHY we say or believe what we do keeps us honest with each other and, more importantly, with ourselves.
Thank You. My head might swell. I will stick around, I am liking all of you as well. I am afraid of becoming polarized in my own views, as you said it keeps us honest to ask the why 🙂
Well, you’ve made a good start of your stay here. Just make sure you pick up after yourself, and no eating in the formal living room.
Forneus, out of respect for your statement of “I do not let a lot of people do this (into my blog)”, I have moderated your comment so the blog address does not show here in the comments section. If you wish, I will repost the entire comment so everyone can see the address.
