This Says it Pretty Well
July 28th, 2006 . by CaryIn case you’ve not picked up on it, I am a Christian. Carol Wimmer wrote this in 1988, and it expresses my feelings pretty well. I wish I was this talented. I’ll bet you, dear and gentle reader, wish I was this talented as well. Then I wouldn’t be all jealous of people like Carol Wimmer:
======
When I say, “I am a Christian,” I’m not shouting, “I’ve been saved!”
I’m whispering, “I get lost! That’s why I chose this way”
When I say, “I am a Christian,” I don’t speak with human pride
I’m confessing that I stumble-needing God to be my guide
When I say, “I am a Christian,” I’m not trying to be strong
I’m professing that I’m weak and pray for strength to carry on
When I say, “I am a Christian,” I’m not bragging of success
I’m admitting that I’ve failed and cannot ever pay the debt
When I say, “I am a Christian,” I don’t think I know it all
I submit to my confusion asking humbly to be taught
When I say, “I am a Christian,” I’m not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are far too visible but God believes I’m worth it
When I say, “I am a Christian,” I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartache which is why I seek His name
When I say, “I am a Christian,” I do not wish to judge
I have no authority–I only know I’m loved

TMBWitW and I will be going for the mid-point ultrasound this afternoon. This is the day we find out if the nursery will be ducks and bunnies or trains and big rigs. She is hoping for a girl, I am hoping for a boy (to name him after my father), but we both feel extremely blessed just to be able to have a child and we will love it no matter what it is. I’m sure you can’t tell just how excited I am.
WOO HOO!!!
God bless you all, and I will be posting later this afternoon with some really cool news. If I have your phone number, I may just call you from the ultrasound room. Won’t that be cool, Gawfer?
Aww Cary, do it the old-fashined way and just wait and find out! j/k Congrats! (beautiful poem too)
Great poem!
I will be using your name in vain if you don’t post as soon as you can after the US! 🙂 I may be a nitwit, but I can’t figure out what TMBWitW stands for. If it’s a pet name-don’t bother. If not-can you let me off the hook? My little brain hurts from trying.
Rick – I was all for being surprised, but someone who is pregnant and hormonal and quite the planner wanted to know ahead of time so things could be purchased and set aside.
Mary – The Most Beautiful Woman in the World has a longer list of people to call than I do, so I’ll be getting off easy by just posting here… Now, quit hurting your brain. All ya gotta do is ask…
I take it you’re one happy and blessed man right now? I’m extremely happy for you.
Cary-Congrats! I have a son and he is a delight. He can come up with the funniest things. He adores snakes, frogs and gross stuff. My daughter? She is all dirt, rocks, blood and guts…
She charms ths socks off of Gunz and leaves him defenseless! It is funny as.
Aww, Mary, even I had TMBWiTW figured out…LOL…
What a gorgeous, gorgeous poem! 🙂
Thank you, le speck – I can’t take credit for it, I just found it.
Thanks for stopping by!
I’ve been having trouble with my ISP lately and just managed to get on long enough to post and read a couple emails. – I missed this posting – Nice poem and rest assured having a girl will be just as big a blessing as a boy. What is your Dad’s name? Can it be modified for the feminine gender?
You know like – Samuel/Samantha – Cary/Carina – Exekiel/???
