Two For One Friday
August 25th, 2006 . by CaryTwo things: the first is from an e-mail that TMBWitW sent to our circle at church. She says it much better than I could hope to:
Well, it has now been 3 weeks since my mom arrived at Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas.
Cary & I were going to take a trip up there tomorrow, but she is in a sedated state, so we are re-planning this trip for next Thursday 8/31/06.
We found out today, just about 12:30, that the results of her liver biopsy revealed that she has cancer. It is on the back side and part of the inside of her liver. I do not know what the next steps are; she is too weak right now for them to attempt a surgery (if a surgery can even be done to rid her of the cancer?).
Please continue to pray. I am not sure whether or not she will even know I am there on Thursday, but we will be making the trip anyway.
Thank you ALL for your continued love, support, and prayers. God has truly blessed me with ALL OF YOU!
The second one I just had to share with you, if for no other reason than the weekend is here and let’s end on an upbeat, shall we?
Prescott (AZ): A Yavapai County sheriff’s deputy patrolling a senior housing development outside Prescott on Wednesday spotted a 5-foot-tall marijuana plant growing between two driveways.
Deputy Justin Dwyer got out, identified the plant and interviewed the residents, spokewoman Susan Quayle said. They told the deputy they thought the plant was “just an attractive weed, and they had been watering it.” Quayle said it appeared the plant was growing wild and probably sprouted from a stray seed.
Where to begin?
… they thought the plant was “just an attractive weed, and they had been watering it.” …
Think about the ages of the residents … think about how tall it had grown … I’ll bet it was an attractive “weed.”
… probably sprouted from a stray seed. …
And just where did that seed come from? How long does it take a plant, regularly watered, to grow to five feet? How long has it been since a sheriff’s deputy patrolled that area?
Have a good weekend. If you are on the front lines, keep your head down and your courage up. God bless you all, and we’ll see you next week.
Cary, first of all, make sure and talk to your Mom when you go to see here. Hold her hand and talk to her. She will probably know you are there and feel comforted by it.
When I take care of patients I ALWAYS talk to them and tell them what I am going to do before I do it. And then I talk them through whatever I am doing. I’ve had many people ask me about it and I tell them that I talk to everyone, even if they are comatose.
Watch her monitor (if she’s on one) when you first walk in the room. Often times a patients heart rate will go up slightly when family is visiting. I always point that out to family and then I tell them, “Look, she knows you are here. Keep talking to her because she can hear you.”
Be careful with what you say in the room with her. If she can hear you, you don’t want to talk badly about her prognosis in front of her.
I wish you both the best and I will be thinking about you.
Yeah, what Sues said! I hope your mother-in-law is able to fight through this.
I’ve heard that those particular “weeds” grow pretty tall pretty fast. It’s probably about a year old. When it was smaller, it was probably hard to spot, and probably wasn’t something that deputies were apt to notice in that particular neighborhood. Just a thought. I guess it could be some “hippie senior citizens” trying to re-live their youth…who knows?
you sound like you are speaking from experience John with the growth process of that particular variety of “weed”! LOL
Prayers for your MIL and family from this end.
Thanks for the words of wisdom, Sues. I’ve printed them out and will have TMBWitW take a look at them later.
The good news is there is no other cancer in her body.
Jarhead – thanks for the info, although I also wonder about your experience…
Rick, thanks. Any help we get in the prayer circle will be a blessing.
Cary-when my mom was on life support, I watched the monitor when I entered the room. Even highly sedated, her pulse would jump up-sometimes 20 beats a minute-when we talked with her and were in the room. Talk with her as if she were able to communicate back. Everything Sue said I have witnessed through my mom. I am sorry to hear about the cancer.
Thanks for the back-up, Mary. I appreciate your comments.
(I hate written communication in times like this. I cannot express my gratitude without coming off like a corporate form letter. I guess I still have issues with showing emotions)
Don’t worry about it Cary. We know where you are coming from. Just hang in there and know that we are thinking of you.
No, I wasn’t referring to any experience for that one! Although it would be amusing, I only know what I’ve been told or read about it as far as growing the darned things.
Sure…. I believe you. 😉 LOL!! Hey, a sister’s gotta tease her little brother a little bit every now and then!!
Spam, spam, spam, spam….
Well before I wised up and joined my beloved Corps I smoked a little weed. LMAO! I was a waiver when I enlisted. I never grew it though, but know people who have from my pre Marine years and that ‘weed’ in question wouldn’t of lasted long enough to get that tall around some of my FORMER High School buddies. *sucks in deep* “know what i mean dude? got any captain crunch?”
