Pearl Harbor Day, 2010
December 7th, 2010 . by CaryPlease take this day to at least remember, if not personally thank, those who gave all or stood tall on that Day of Infamy, 69 years ago today.
But you better hurry – the Pearl Harbor Survivors, a fraternity that started out 18,000 strong, is down to 3000 members, mostly in their eighties and nineties. They are consolidating their divisions from eight to four. And their stories are dying with them.
My Uncle, trapped on the West Virginia as she sank, then miraculously freed in time to walk a ropeline to the Tennessee, died eight years ago.
I miss him. More than that, I miss the example and education his generation provided.
Thanks for the reminder Cary.
His generation was The Greatest, GB. I’m sorry I never got to meet him.
I had uncles in WWII, none were in Pearl Harbor at the time of the attacks. Most of them have also passed.
