Application to Represent Me
October 12th, 2013 . by CaryThank you for showing interest in being my representative in government. Please answer the following questions. If you pass, you will know because I will have voted for you in the next election.
1. The United States is what kind of government?
(note – this is a trick question, apparently – let’s look at some perceived answers, shall we?)
From pResident Barack Obama: WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 (UPI) — U.S. President Barack Obama said the politics involved in the government shutdown and the debt ceiling “isn’t how our democracy works, and we have to stop it.” Source: Obama: Shutdown politics ‘isn’t how our democracy works’
From Representative Matt Salmon (R, AZ): “Our democracy has not always operated smoothly. Our Founding Fathers had fierce debates in Independence Hall before negotiating what would become the Constitution.” Source: Dear Mr. President: This shutdown isn’t a game
What I don’t understand is how these people can become some of the highest level “representatives” and not know this basic information.
Kinda sad, actually …
Chat ya later…
Thanks for stopping by, In GOD We Trust, and Wear Red on Fridays!
Last I heard, the US was a Federal Republic
“A federal republic is a federation of states with a republican form of government. A federation is the central government. The states in a federation also maintain the federation. Usage of the term republic is inconsistent but, as a minimum, it means a state or federation of states that does not have a monarch.”
But don’t ask me, I’m just an ‘average Joe’
That is correct. It certainly is NOT a mob-ruled, majority voted democracy, for crying out loud …
