Monday – I Think
November 3rd, 2008 . by CaryDrove cab this weekend. Wow. Friday night, AND Halloween? Not only were they dressed funny, and drunk, but they were dressed funnier than normal.
I picked up one foursome early Saturday morning, after a drawn-out private party. One of them, a Russian who can’t handle his liquor (we’ll call him “Alexi”) was dressed as a stereotype Mexican – serape, wide brimmed hat – and was sleeping on the sidewalk when I pulled up. His friends, one gal and two guys, got him poured into the back seat and propped him against the door with the window open. (kudos to you guys, for doing that!) Once we started up 7th Street from downtown, Alexi woke up and started demanding that we pull into “the Arches” or “the Box” for some hamburgers. The gal (we’ll call her “Angela”), who was sitting in the front seat, told me to keep going and she assured Alexi that there was food at the house they could eat.
Three miles of Alexi’s demands finally wore Angela down. We pulled into the Box at 7th Street and Maryland. Poor window guy – had to listen to Alexi’s drunken wanderings all over the menu while he ordered meals for everyone in the car. He even bought me a drink. He would have bought me a full meal, but I wasn’t hungry. Besides, driving a cab with a load of passengers and trying to eat at the same time …
Food ordered, we pull around, Alexi pays, the bags are handed in, and we continue north. Angela starts handing out the food, according to who ordered what, and it appears that the order is short. I noticed the receipt sitting on the seat next to Angela, and I pick it up and look real quick – three meals, one extra drink “mine” and an order of potato wedges. Seems Alexi was so busy being the dinner director he forgot to order for himself…
