Some Peace At Last

March 1st, 2010 . by Cary

So – things are settling back into “normal” around here. Went to work at the deli today. I’m planning on missing the HOA meeting tonight, even though I’m on the board, because I have two sick girls on my hands. The Tagalongs came in, two boxes=two single servings, right? I’ve got an invitation for tomorrow morning to discuss the numbers that came back from the blood test – “off the charts” means I’m outstanding in every way, right? I’m planning to have a show Friday night 2200 hours MST. My ear infection has gone away, but the ringing is getting louder. I think I’ll mention that at the discussion tomorrow. I’m not practicing on my bass nearly as often as I should, and certainly not as much as I want to, but these things happen. I will get it together and actually start improving soon. I’m getting used to the idea that Mom isn’t around any more, but there’s still a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I have forgotten something in connection to her passing. If you see something here (now that I’ve got the move finished) that is different or not quite the way it was before, let me know, and I will fix it. Or at least try to.

Is Monday Over Yet?

(please note – the information below is subject to rapid changes for reasons that will soon be apparent – and it is, in fact, a change from the latest conversation with certain family members)

President’s Day – the Paper Plate was closed, but driving a cab was profitable today. In case you didn’t know, I’ve been driving during the day, and it’s mostly doctor runs and grocery calls, so no weirdos. Mostly. Except for the second to last run today, involving a couple of cross dressing show “girls” headed for work, it was a busy and boring day.

Until about noon, that is. The news started pouring in. TMBWitW’s cardiologist gave her a mostly clean bill of health – with the exception of a vitamin D deficiency, even her BP was in the normal range. My sister called. She Who Must Be Obeyed is, in the parlance of Hospice, actively dying. I had been planning on going to the Old Pueblo on Saturday; now it looks like I’ll be there Wednesday morning until … which means, of course, that anything I had on the platter for shows, trains, music, practice, whatever, is now on indefinite hold.

I’ll be off the grid for a while. Unless, of course, I can get access to an internet connection and I can remember my passwords. Please keep the family in your prayers and good thoughts.

Just A Couple of Things…

January 25th, 2010 . by Cary

First – empirical proof that Global Warming is not happening – Hell has, in fact, frozen over. Witness the fact that the Saints are in the Super Bowl.

Second, this little bit of wit passing about the interwebs:

Dear God,
Last year you took my favorite entertainer (Michael Jackson), my favorite actor (Patrick Swayze), and my favorite pin-up girl (Farrah).
Just to let you know, some of my favorite politicians are Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid.

Updated 2/9/10: Thank you, Lord, for not making me type in K-nn-dy and M-rth- on my laptop – I don’t think it would have survived the pounding.

Monday-ish

December 21st, 2009 . by Cary

My phone woke me up this morning. The number was identified as coming from my mother’s house. It’s still dark out, I don’t know what time it is, Mom’s health is not the best, and my phone is ringing. That usually adds up to only one thing.

Except this time, it was my mother calling, wondering if I knew where my older brother was. Seems his house phone went to the recording that says “The number you have dialed is no longer in service. Please check the number … ” and my mother tried information with the almost predictable result of “No information for that name.” So, naturally, she woke me up to see if I knew where my brother was. I live in Glendale, Arizona, and he lives in the Salt Lake City area, so yeah, sure, we see each other EVERY DAY.

I promised her I would see what I could do. I needed to call him and wish him a happy birthday anyway. I dialed his number and he answered. I wished him a happy birthday, and then explained the reason for my call. “Yeah” he said, “I had to have the house phone disconnected. We’re running through a rough spot. Seems no one wants to hire an accountant with gray hair.”

“Grecian Formula” I helpfully suggested.

“You know that’s not me” he replied.

I asked him to call Mom so she wouldn’t worry. He promised he would.

I still don’t like calls in the dark of the night.

Using Their Own Tools Against Them

November 16th, 2009 . by Cary

For the life of me, I cannot remember who I need to H/T for this. I saw a blurb on Facebook, and followed through with it, and now I need to let everyone know about it.

The Demoncratic Party has made it possible for all their loyal unionist thugs to write one letter to the editor and have it sent to as many newspapers and other “news” outlets as the letter writer chooses. Chandler’s Watch published the link, and I think the best thing for us, as conservatives, to do, is to use their own tool to help our cause(s). The site has lovely “talking points” to help those of us not quite sure what we want to say. I used them to my advantage.

Here’s the letter I sent to The Arizona Republic, the East Valley Tribune, the Arizona Daily Star, the Daily News-Sun, The Daily Courier, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Financial Times:

Subject National Health Care
Message Last November 7th, the House of Representative caved in to pressure from Speaker Pelosi and her ilk to pass a form of Government Controlled Health Care. This bill, which was NOT placed before the public in order for it to be reviewed prior to the vote, will increase the national deficit, promises to fine and/or JAIL anyone who does not purchase government mandated coverage, and increase t he cost of doing business for all businesses in the United States.

Representatives who voted for this bill, in spite of being shown what this bill would do to the insurance industry and ignoring what their constituents were telling them, should be put on notice by We The People (remember us? your employers?) that they will not be representing us any more after the next election you are in.

Representatives who voted against this bill should be commended for their right-thinking actions, and assured that their positions will not be under attack.

This one hundred year fight is not over. As long as there are conservative thinking people in this nation, the government needs to be told over and over and OVER again that they shall not institute socialist programs like this one.

And, while we’re at it, get the government out of the automobile and banking business, also. The government is not here to control us, the government is to be controlled by We The People.

The Demoncratic Party was nice enough to send me an e-mail confirming my use of the site, and providing a link to let them know, should my letter get published:

Thank you for writing a letter to the editor.

By speaking up, you’ll help shape pubic opinion in your community and ensure that health insurance reform becomes a reality in 2009.

If your story gets published, we’d love to hear about it. Please let us know here:

Trust me, Mitch – I will be letting you know if my letter gets published. Oh, and Mitch? Thanks for providing the tool to do this.
