Thank You

October 28th, 2010 . by Cary

If you are reading this, thank you. It means you haven’t given up on me. You still pop in here once in a while to see if I’ve written anything lately, and for that, I am grateful. Not very prolific in the communication sector, but grateful nonetheless.

I’ve been getting a bunch of “Commit to Vote” notes on Facebook. Since I’ve already voted by absentee ballot, I did commit to vote, but I’m not going to join that movement (or any other movements that require this) because they demand access to your information so they can spam you later … along with all your Facebook Friends. And, being the kind, loving guy that I am, I’m not going to force you all to face that kind of intrusion if I can help it.

Speaking of voting – the AFA sent out it’s very helpful voting guide today. However, since I’ve already voted … I’ve decided that information after the fact is no longer needed. I unsubscribed. I am unsubbing to a lot of things that I used to think I needed.

Oh, and as a reminder – vote next Tuesday. I don’t care who you personally feel you need to vote for, although if you are a regular here or at any of the Daily Reads over in the sidebar, you will be voting for “Not The Incumbent No Matter Who They Are” and flushing that transparent bowl of DC. The important thing is to vote. This country needs to hear from the majority – and I don’t think the majority is a group of left-leaning extremists who want to coddle everyone from cradle to grave on the public dime.

I’m also considering unsubscribing from Facebook. Just another time suck that is eating away at the family time. Heh – remember the old horror movies where the computers were trying to take over the humans? And the humans were trying to prevent it? Who knew that the fictional part of that one would be the humans trying to prevent it from happening?

Long Dry Spell

October 14th, 2010 . by Cary

My apologies to my somewhat faithful readers – I’ve been juggling, and as usual the blog falls first.

I’ve been cutting spline:

Pardon the fuzzy focus – the camera on the phone works well as long you don’t want to see detail. Yet another reason to ditch the Neurotic and go back to the Gravity 2.

I’ve also been working on outlines for about thirteen books of the Bible to be presented at the retreat at the end of the month. If I get enough interest, I will share them (and the others from the retreat) once I get back from the retreat.

It’s getting late again – once again running out of time int he day. I thought maybe once I became employed, I wouldn’t be as busy as I was when I was unemployed – that didn’t work out.

Thursday

September 16th, 2010 . by Cary

Sometimes, I miss the time I could afford to take to do my old Thursday Round Ups. I don’t want my bloglist to think that I’ve forgotten them; so if you would all do me a favor and run down my bloglist on the sidebar and pay those good folks a visit, I would appreciate it. I’m sure they would too.

I was thinking about our fellowship this morning. The message last night included a sidebar by the pastor, referring to some former members who have left to follow a different path. Most of those who have left were sincere brothers and sisters while they were in the fellowship; but once an item was discussed they couldn’t believe it or they couldn’t follow it within the parameters of Christianity.

This begs the question – if you are not willing to follow ALL of the tenets of Christianity, why do you call yourself a Christian? The particular example mentioned last night was in regard to personal accountability, but others have been some pretty basic stuff – things like not having any gods before the One True God (following money instead of God), not being willing to give up a fleshly desire (alcohol to excess, extra-marital sexual relations) or allowing fleshly desires to interfere with your continued relationship with the Christ (again, the extra-marital thing). One brother left our fellowship because of jealousy and covetousness – he could not grasp the concept of a leader who could afford to provide for his family AND have a boat (which, by the way, is freely offered to the group for use).

(as a side note – this leader is blessed by God not only in his personal life, but in his business affairs also – and it is solely because he has consecrated everything to the Lord. he already has one successful business and is embarking on launching another – he has a history of entrepreneurial successes – both current endeavors are in partnership with his brother, who is also a wonderful man of God. watching their success is a testament to the power of faith)

At any rate – last night we covered 1 Corinthians 4-6, and that discussion is what generated these thoughts. Follow God, be successful. Pick and choose which parts to follow, run into issues. Saying you are a Christian is easy. Being and acting as a Christian is another matter entirely, and one where a lot of “Christians” fall.

Watch your step, brothers and sisters.

Burning The koran

September 9th, 2010 . by Cary

Long-time readers know that I have zero respect for the cult of islam, the muslims who follow it, or their so-called “holy book”, the koran. No respect to the point that if you were to go back over every post I have ever made about any of these subjects, you would notice one thing – they never get capitalized.

That said, the pastor in Gainesville who has stated that he plans on burning copies of the koran on 9/11 is one of two things: either crazy, or crafty. There is a fine line there.

He’s crazy if he thinks it is going to change how the muslims view themselves. He’s crafty if he’s got everyone giving this so much attention and drawing attention to the reactions of the followers of islam, the so-called “religion of peace” that is demonstrating, rioting, and generally showing their collective “hinders” to the world. He’s crazy if he thinks all this media attention wasn’t going to happen. He’s crafty if he thought a little media attention would help the first crafty notion mentioned. He’s crazy if he lets all the pressure change his course. He’s crafty if his course was to just announce, but never carry out, the burning.

You see, that’s what I think is going to happen. Instead of lighting up all those copies of the koran, he’s going to pull a press conference and point out how just the thought of their “holy book” being disrespected was enough to send the muslims into paroxysms of rage and rioting, and point out how when a Bible is burned, it doesn’t bother Christians. He’ll probably point out the hypocrisy of the media left, who celebrate the first amendment every time someone burns a flag but decries the burning of the koran…

That’s what I think will happen. We’ll see.

Don’t forget Project 2996 – click the image below to go to the site and get your reminders posted.

Now, before any muslims or islamic apologists come on here and try to convince me that I have it all wrong, that there is no mention of violence against others in the koran:

● Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them (47:4)
● The unbelievers are stupid; urge the muslims to fight them (8:65)
● muslims must not take the infidels as friends (3:28)
● Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the qur’an (8:12)
● muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels (8:60)
● Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them (2:191)
● Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood (9:123)
● When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them (9:5)
● Kill the Jews and the Christians if they do not convert to islam or refuse to pay jJizya tax (9:29)
● Any religion other than islam is not acceptable (3:85)
● The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them (9:30)
● Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize islam. (5:33)
● The infidels are unclean; do not let them into a mosque (9:28)
● Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies (22:19)

h/t to Texas Fred for the lines of the koran.

CatchUp

September 2nd, 2010 . by Cary

Midweek fellowship was a blast. Had a great time worshiping God and walking through Acts 4.

The live band was pretty good, too, if I do say so myself! 😉

This morning I did some half-hearted scraping of the floor in the closet. It’s going to be slow going, working about a half hour at a time, especially this part – I have to spray water on a small area, let it soak, then scrape the area (due to the dried paint and drywall compound that the original builders just built right over). Then, after it dries, either sweep or scrape it again to get the dried gunk off the floor.

I did manage to get the baseboards cut away – when painters come in to paint, they sometimes use a bead of caulk along the top edge of the baseboard to smooth the transition to the baseboard and hide the irregularities of the wallboard. There was a lot of caulk holding these baseboards on. Tomorrow is a lumber cutting day and Wanda’s memorial service, Saturday I will be at Babystop bright and early, Sunday is fellowship and related activities followed by another round of eBay stuff, so the next time I”ll be working on the closet looks like Monday morning.

Anyone know of a way to squeeze more hours into the day? I need to get more accomplished while my eyes are open.
