Sea Change

July 14th, 2008 . by Cary

That is, a change in direction.

Possibly.

You see, after much thought and consideration, I placed an “employment wanted” ad on WoodWeb, a site for wood professionals to network.

I have been contacted a couple of times already, and I am in comminication with those who have contacted me. Depending on many, many factors, including what TMBWitW and I hear from God, we may end up moving from here.

I am not looking forward to trying to sell this house, leaving our church family, or leaving the railroad and then trying to find suitable replacements for any and all of these.

Maybe I’m just a real softy for our animals, but I worry most how a move would affect Logan.

Logan under the tree

You guys? I’m not worried about the friends I’ve made in the blogging world – this address wouldn’t change, and I know where to find your blogs. And, you’re tough. You’ll get by without me being here for a few days in the middle of a move. I will sure have a lot of stuff to blog about and talk about on The O Word from something like this.

And then, there is the old, old felling of uprooting myself again. Growing up, I never spent more than three years in a single school. My Freshman year in high school started out in Greenhills, Ohio, and ended up in New Madison, Ohio – from suburban to rural, from walking to school to riding a bus. And, of course, meeting a bunch of new classmates who were already three quarters of the way through their Freshman year and had been together since Kindergarten. No, no trouble fitting in there at all. Now, I’m (*%* years old (huh – looks like I get line noise even on a cable modem…) and I am thinking about uprooting the family myself. The rest of my family is kind of scattered, but mostly here in Arizona (with the exception of a brother in Utah and a sister in Ohio).

I can see there is going to be a lot of praying and talking about this. Please hold us up as we consider this. We appreciate it.

Update late Monday afternoon:

One of the conversations has ended, with a “thank you” so that leaves one, for now.

Are you wearing red?

On the show today – reasoning and logic; common sense; and, for a change of pace, a case from the Quebec Superior court. I might even discuss other things. Call in – the listener number is 347-838-9573.

I pray you have a safe weekend!

StartLogic Sucks

July 10th, 2008 . by Cary

TexasFred has a great post up regarding the level of suckage at StartLogic. It would be really, really amusing, if I hadn’t just paid for two years of hosting there – not just for this blog, but also for the model railroad’s site.

StartLogic is based here in Phoenix. Their help desk is located in BFE, India. Not real helpful, and I must say that had I known that prior to signing up with them I would not have signed up with them.

I have said all that to say this: DO NOT SIGN ON WITH STARTLOGIC.

This has been a public service announcement.

Any one have suggestions for hosting, in about eighteen months?

I’ll be doing daily backups of both sites, now. Thanks, StartLogic, I needed one more thing on my plate.

By the way, I won’t be running down the blogroll today. Please click on the tab labeled “All Blogrolls Here” and find some mighty good reading anywhere you land.

Thinking Outside the Box

July 8th, 2008 . by Cary

Inside joke, the title.

As in, inside the cat’s room. Yes, I’m talking about a certain cat who likes to think outside the box. Normally, a good way to come up with a solution that had not been thought of before. In this context, I’m going to have to vote against any further thinking outside the box, as it results in pee by the door and cat poop on the floor.

Cinnamon, the little brown dog, tells me that if she were allowed in the cat room, there wouldn’t be a poop-on-the-floor issue.

I don’t wanna know.

I managed to sabotage my bike riding efforts yet again – I left my phone (with the alarm function) in the closet last night, in stead of on the bathroom counter. That way, when the alarm went off, it was muffled by the closed closet door…

So – how’s your week going?

Monday, Monday

July 7th, 2008 . by Cary

So – the snooze button got the mileage again today. That’s what I get for partying until the wee hours.

Yah, right. I was updating the Wisconsin Cartters page (reformatting the text of the book, so you can actually read it) and was in bed by 2230. Ish. For whatever reason, my body is in a state of needing something – can’t quite put the finger on it, but I’m sure it will come to me. Then I’ll be all over it and get fixed right up.

MEG woke up about 0615 (early for her) and her first words were “Good morning, Daddy. I love you so much!”

I wish.

Her first utterance of the day was “Stitch?” and right after her waffle she watched Lilo and Stitch and then went back to bed.

I’ve got some new pictures in the header rotation – with a big old THANK YOU to Richard who so graciously allowed me to borrow his sunsets.

BZ has a link to an article about the new citizenship test. I scored 100%, in a wonderful paroxysm of lucky guesses and basic knowledge. How did you do?
