Twelve Twelve Twelve Twelve Twelve Twelve

December 12th, 2012 . by Cary

Type something often enough and it looks wrong.

This happens twice today, but won’t happen again for one hundred years, long after I am gone (unless I got the longevity gene from my great-grandmother Fitch, in which case I’ll only miss it by about thirty eight years). This item is posting at 12:12 (probably take about twelve seconds) on the twelfth day of the twelfth month of the twelfth year of this century.

P.S. – I’ll save you the math. I turn 51 in 15 days. GGma Fitch lived to be 112.

Wow.

We were out of town and off line over the weekend. Yes, I had phone service, but no data. T-mobile doesn’t think data service is important in far-away places like Kingman, Arizona. And phone service isn’t important outisde of metropolises like Prescott, Arizona.

But I digress.

Along with being off-line, I was also away from the papers. Blissful, yes, but then you come back and get caught up a day after everything happens to find out the Cardinals are even worse than you thought possible.

Anyone who has read this blog more than once or twice knows that I am waiting for Arizona to have a professional football team before I root for anyone besides Denver or Cincinnati. But yesterday’s “game” against the Seahawks? Holy stinks-worse-than-skunk-attack-on-wet-dog, Batman – Most points scored by an opponent (58). Biggest defeat in franchise history (58-0). Even the sports columnists at the Arizona Republic have tossed in the towel, saying that even firing Whisenhunt would only appease the thousands, if not hundreds, of fans. It sure won’t fix the guaranteed losing season.

On the other hand, I suppose now would be a time to become a “fan” of the Cardinals, as they can really only go up from here. There is no way they can do worse than they did yesterday.

Of course, now that I’ve said it, they’ll prove me wrong next weekend …

Thankful Red Friday

“Black Friday” is a marketing scam to get you to spend your holiday money early. I say let the businesses figure out how to be profitable year round, and quit putting all your eggs in one basket.

Instead, celebrate Red Friday every week, showing your support for those who serve.

Celebrate the Joy of Our Lord every DAY and thank God for His many blessings.

On this Day After Thanksgiving, don’t be a hypocrite and rush out to buy stuff that you didn’t even mention in your “thankful” speech around the dinner table yesterday.

Do me a favor, though – and yourself, and every community that has locally-owned businesses – go out and support your local businesses tomorrow during “Small Business Saturday”. Yes, it’s sponsored by American Express. No, I do not condone the use of credit. Cash is the way to freedom – if you don’t owe money, you can’t be held down.

Happy Thanksgiving 2012

November 21st, 2012 . by Cary

I am thankful that I live in a country where it is still a God-given right to speak freely, worship openly, and gather peacefully.

I am thankful that I live in a country where we still have the right to bear arms in order to protect the rights of the people from the federal government.

And the local government, too.

I am thankful I have a church family that loves me, and that I love – for fellowship, for worship, for prayer, there is nothing like two or three gathered in His name.

I am thankful for the friends I have – the ones I’ve been blessed to meet, the ones I am looking forward to meeting – and especially the ones that have stuck by me through thick and thin.

I am thankful that God has blessed me with a beautiful, loving wife and a precocious daughter. And the patience and wisdom to deal with them both.

I am thankful I have a group of readers who will see this, and think of their blessings and count what they are thankful for.

Have a Happy, safe, and blessed Thanksgiving celebration, ya’ll.

This, That, and T’other

November 15th, 2012 . by Cary

I thought I could rid myself of this bit of saved text – the one that gives me this result: “Obama(THHO)” – but I was wrong.

Good news – you probably didn’t notice, but we had a bump in the road here – not a bump like the above named person means, but as in the host that we (Bushwack, BZ, Texas Fred, Brady and myself) share. There was a growth issue – they grew, we grew, things got kinda cramped – but BlueHost came through like professionals and we are all resolved. There might still be a glitch or two, but things should be back to normal by the time you read this.

Speaking of the group, you should go visit them and read them. Often. More often than I do. In fact, there’s a whole slew of excellent writers listed over on the side bar. GO visit all of them. You will get educated.

Chat ya later, and don’t forget to practice your amendments – especially the first two …
