Hard to Tell the Left from the “Right”

June 18th, 2013 . by Cary

“The people can never willfully betray their own interests: But they may possibly be betrayed by the representatives of the people; and the danger will be evidently greater where the whole legislative trust is lodged in the hands of one body of men, than where the concurrence of separate and dissimilar bodies is required in every public act.”

–James Madison, Federalist No. 63, 1788

Founder’s Quote Daily

There’s a problem with the last line – “dissimilar bodies” – all three branches are now in collusion with one another, and they all share the same goal – the destruction of the United States from within.

Two Wheeled Therapy

May 7th, 2013 . by Cary

My friend Greybeard over at Pitchpull calls his time on a motorcycle “Two Wheel Therapy”. A long time ago, I used to ride often. I have had the opportunity to retune my chops on a street bike over the last four days, and I gotta tell ya that the phrase is truer now than before. It used to be a novelty transportation, something to bust out on the weekends. Using it to do my job yesterday and today, and getting used to it on Saturday and Sunday, woke something up inside me. I gotta get one of these for myself.

A big THANK YOU to my Pastor, Mike. He is letting me borrow his 750 Shadow to see if it will work for work. For the most part, it will. On the rare occasion that I have to carry a part to a job site, it may pose a problem. It’s not normally my job to take parts to a job site, but once in a while it’s been known to happen. Maybe a milk crate tied to the back rest …

The Road Rhino has been eating up a lot of the discretionary income lately. After the new distributor (computerized, thank you for asking) and finally (finally!) figuring out where all the water was going (not into the oil reservoir, in case you were guessing), it has come to a point where I’m looking at either sinking more money into it and hoping it lasts a while before having to sink MORE money into it, or cutting our losses now and biting the bullet to get another vehicle. (another besides a bike, I mean. that’s a given at this point. just finding the right one, at the right price is the question. if you happen to know of a sub-1000cc machine with most of the road gear already on it for under five grand, let me know)

At the same time, I’ve got to sell the Road Rhino. He’s been a good unit, but it’s time. Anyone interested, leave me a message. 205+ thousand miles and mostly trouble free. Needs to have a new water pump and timing chain. The leak that I’ve been chasing (and, as a result, ended up replacing everything BUT the water pump in the process, including the radiator and all the hosing) is in the water pump housing. The water pump covers the timing chain. Both should be done at the same time, according to the generally accepted wisdom around the cracker barrel.

I’m gonna miss the Rhino. But I’m not going to miss the mileage. (18 downhill out of gear with a stiff tailwind, 17 the rest of the time)

Mail Call! Needs Banners

February 26th, 2013 . by Cary

As many of you know, I am a very strong supporter of the troops. In that vein, please head over to Mail Call! and check out what Kathi is doing – again! – this year. She has listed very simple directions, and it’s easy to get it done.

The Face of America bike ride is coming up soon, and the banners need to be received by Tuesday, April 23, 2013. What are you waiting for? Get going!

No, Really, They Are Unrelated

February 19th, 2013 . by Cary

During the Second World War, units of the United States Marine Corps launched the offensive to invade the island of Iwo Jima on this date in 1945. We took the fight to the Imperial Japanese forces, on their territory.

In completely unrelated news, law enforcement authorities are finally changing how they want people to react to an attacker – fight back. The article that tickled this thought is in the print edition of the Arizona Republic today, with a byline of Kevin Johnson writing for USAToday. Naturally, since it advocates NOT being a sheep led to slaughter, I can’t seem to find it online.

Law enforcement authorities are increasingly advising school officials, and even young students, to physically confront attackers as a final line of defense.

“Final line”? Why not right out the gate? Take them on, they are expecting to find a building full of targets, not a confrontation. Standing up to them, en masse, would shut them down faster than hiding in the closet until realizing that the authorities are not coming fast enough.

I sure miss the days when people who broke the law were called on it and held responsible for their actions.

Watch The Other Hand

January 29th, 2013 . by Cary

So, while Obama(THHO) has been keeping our attention on the Second Amendment and the violation thereof by the administration, Obama(THHO) and his team of lackeys (all DemocRATS, including my senator from Arizona, John McCain) have been working on a “Comprehensive Immigration Reform”. The Arizona Democrat Republic has a big old Front Page Headline showing the four leading democRAT representatives during the introduction of this measure.

A bipartisan push for comprehensive immigration reform, including a pathway to citizenship that is contingent on border security, shifted into high gear in the Senate on Monday, the day before President Barack Obama was expected to make a major speech on the issue at an appearance in Las Vegas.

Let’s take a look at some of the points, shall we? (bullet points taken from the print version of The Arizona Republic, I’m not sure if the on-line version will continue to show them.)

1. Citizenship Pathway – Create a “tough” but fair path to citizenship for undocumented (their words, not mine) immigrants in the US, contigent on securing the borders. (Translation: “As soon as Janet Napolitano tells us the borders are secure, we are going to flip the bird at all the legal immigrants who have followed the legal path to citizenship.”)

2. System Reform – Reform the immigration system so that it better meets the demands of the economy and strengthens families. (Translation: “We are going to continue screwing over US citizens who need work by facilitating the flow of low-cost illegal immigrants into this country and allowing the ones here to take even more jobs from US families, while at the same time stopping our law enforcement agencies from splitting families up when we send the illegal immigrants home, leaving their anchor baby families here.”)

3. Worker Verification – Create an effective system for employers to verify who is eligible to work and who isn’t. (Translation: “E-Verify has caught up too many people trying to work illegally in this country, so we’re going to create a system that lets all kinds of criminals slip through the cracks.”)

4. Workforce Demands – Establish a better process for workers to enter legally to meet the nation’s workforce needs, while protecting all workers. (Translation: “We are going to continue screwing over US citizens who need work by facilitating the flow of low-cost illegal immigrants into this country and allowing the ones here to take even more jobs from US families, while making sure that employers cannot fire the ones who are already here illegally, all the while ignoring the fact that the United States is sitting on 7% and higher unemployment.”)

There, I think I’ve got it figured out. What do you think? And remember, while this brewing, keep an eye on the other hand AGAIN so that Obama(THHO) and his minions administration can infringe on the Second Amendment some more.
