Happy Anniversary to Us

May 5th, 2010 . by Cary

Today we celebrate nine years of wedded bliss.

Without The Most Beautiful Woman in the World, my life would be very very empty.

Here’s to you, my love. My prayer is for continued happiness with you.

Time Flies and Other Insects

March 17th, 2010 . by Cary

Well – here we are, about a month and a half since the last post. (made you look!) Lots going on, with very little time to actually sit down and blog. TMBWitW is on “fur-cation” this week, I worked in the deli on Monday, stopped by Harold’s house to ship some eBay stuff and went to Kingman yesterday; and I was going to be driving a cab today except that we didn’t get back from Kingman until 0130 this morning. You are welcome, drivers on the streets of Phoenix, I am not trying to drive a cab on three hours of sleep. We did, however, get to see cousins and friends while we were in Kingman. Good times! Also found out just how badly TMBWitW hates traffic circles, and that we don’t communicate well when one of us is awakened from a power nap during the drive: I had asked her to drive about an hour north of Wickenburg, and she did. Just as we were coming into town, she woke me up and asked how to navigate the new traffic circles that bypassed downtown Wickenburg. I told her to get in the left lane, and when the exit came up, I said “OK, exit right.” I think she thought I was going to say ” … NOW!” after that. We went around the circle again, and I told her to turn right when the exit came up. She did. The thing is, there is another circle right after that. I told her to get in the left lane again (she had wandered over to the right lane) and while we were going around, we would pass the exit to go downtown. I told her to stay left (meaning, continue around the circle) and she promptly cut across a traffic lane and exited towards downtown, making a right exit. She pulled over, I gave her a big hug, and said “Next time, we’ll pull over before we get to the traffic circles and I will take us through them.” She said “I hate traffic circles.”

Remember back a few posts, when I have written about the city of Phoenix giving my Pastor a hard time because he has a home meeting? Well, until the church building is built, it’s going to continue. You may also have heard about the city of Gilbert (part of the Greater Maricopa County Metropolis) banning home groups of a religious nature. That one is getting straightened out. In the meantime, Pastor has been in contact with a few “legal minds” regarding his private property, and the number of friends he invites over for worship and prayer. Without going into detail, let me just say that there are a few high-ranking judges who disapprove of ANY city trampling on private citizen’s First Amendment rights…

In a related vein, several of us (people with a standing invite to Pastor’s home) have decided that if the city of Phoenix wants to try to curtail our 1A activities, then we have a nice legal option called the “class action suit.” Wonder how the city wants to fund that defense, since it’s facing some nasty budget issues to begin with?

Vacation Week(s)

December 17th, 2009 . by Cary

This week and next, TMBWitW is on “vacation” – that is, she isn’t scheduled to be in the office, but since her team is already a skeleton crew, she has no choice but to do some work from home becasue she doesn’t want to walk into a huge pile when she returns on the 28th, just in time for year end. The silver lining is that we get to spend a lot of time in the house together along with MEG. MEG, by the way, is potty-training. FOr the most part, she is potty trained – but still doesn’t fully grasp the whole “poop in the potty, not in your panties” thing. We’re working on it.

My job has been spotty lately, with the end of the year and it being a “dedicated” deli, most of the newspaper folk are taking lots of time off between now and the end of the year, so there’s really no need for a third person right now. So, I have off until after the first of the year. (insert twiddling of thumbs here)

This Friday night, at 2200 MST, The “O” Word will be on the air. Just right for following the Friday Follies on Pastor Ed and Annie B.

This Sunday evening, TMBWitW, MEG and I will be joining our good and wonderful friends to tour the Luminaria at the Desert Botanical Gardens. This has become an annual tradition, and we look forward to it every year. The Gardens are lit up with thousands of Luminaria, and there are several musical guests scattered throughout the gardens. Last year, there was an installation of glass sculptures by Chihuly.

Friday – Moving Day

December 4th, 2009 . by Cary

No, I’m not moving – the show is. I decided to move my BlogTalkRadio show, The “O” Word, to 2130 hours Mountain Standard Time on Friday nights. This decision was made in a well-reasoned, thoughtful manner, after not sleeping all night because a certain young lady refused to lay down and close her eyes. Until 0130.

For now – I’m headed back to bed. I’ve gotta get up in a bit and get chiropracted, then drop off TMBWitW’s dry-clean-only long coat, and then go to the church to see which decorations can be used and which ones need to be replaced…

For an under-employed guy, I sure am busy. Be sure to join me tonight.

UPDATE: Today’s question (leave the answer in the comments section): WHat role brought Max Baer, Jr., to our attention? Hint: he turned 72 this week.

Hump Day Already

September 30th, 2009 . by Cary

Continuing in the tradition of being the busiest underemployed man in America, the blog has been falling off the plate lately. My apologies to anyone who may have missed my daily (or so) ramblings.

The position is going well – still settling into the role of prep cook – this week, with TMBWitW still awaiting the results from her procedure, and not being allowed to drive, the Chef was kind enough to let me flex my hours a bit and work earlier in the day; that way, I could drive my wife to work (the deli is in the same building she works in) and then take her home after work. TMBWitW has her follow-up visit on Friday, and she’ll be cleared to drive herself then.

MEG has developed a funny little quirk – she doesn’t like to be in a room by herself. During the day, this is not a problem. But when it’s bedtime…

I’m stealing these few moments of quiet before the house gets moving to get TMBWitW to work, then I’ve got two dogs to get to the groomer, some walnut wood samples to make, and some veneering to do on the hope chest.

Friday morning is the next installment of The “O” Word on BlogTalkRadio – I promise to have the microphone plugged in the right connection this time…
