Less Than A Week

June 13th, 2011 . by Cary

Saturday morning, I’m hopping on the “hitcharide” express bound for Anaheim and an industry conference/workshop/trade show. Yeah, bummer, I have to spend a week playing with and learning about toys. Some ‘job’, huh?

My biggest concern is our dog, Cinnamon, who has canine diabetes. Next Thursday, THMBWitW and MEG will be driving out to join me for a couple days of vacation, and our dogsitter is pregnant. I’m sure it will work out OK, but I’m still concerned.

My second biggest concern is the fact that TMBWitW and MEG are coming out to join me next Thursday. TMBWitW hasn’t driven long distances lately, and she’s not real fond of driving long distances in the first place, but I am certainly not going to subject them to the unconstitutional strip searches at the airports. The last thing anyone wants to see is a YouTube video of MEG being traumatized followed by TMBWitW going into Mama Bear mode. (maybe my concern is more for the safety of the tsa goons, knowing that they probably wouldn’t survive an encounter with MEG’s mommy)

At any rate, a distant cousin will be joining up with us for some catching up once the two of my ladies get out there.

I’m saying all that to say this: Blogging my be even lighter than my usual grueling two-or-three posts a week over the next couple of weeks. Please try to avoid going into any kind of withdrawal mode.

By the by, did you notice I’m on Twitter? over there in the sidebar – little blue button with a birdie on it … not that I tweet a lot, but in case you need to hear from me more often than I blog …

One Day Vacation

May 9th, 2011 . by Cary

I hit a milestone the other week – one year at the new “job”. That means that bennies start kicking in – like accrued vacation. So, I took Saturday as a vacation day.

Initially, with my day off on Friday, a vacation day Saturday, and the store being closed on Sunday, we were looking forward to having a long weekend together, as a family, for the first time in a while. We were full of grand plans, like clearing out the detritus of living in the same place for more than ten years and having a garage sale. That fell apart on Friday, when I didn’t get any sleep Thursday night and spent the day taking care of MEG while TMBWitW was at work – normal Friday stuff, except I didn’t get the chance to go through the piles and start filling the garage with sale items. Then, Friday night, we ended up staying up way too late, doing things around the house – laundry, dishes, etc. – and figured the heck with it, we’ll just sleep in.

Saturday morning (late morning!) we met pastor’s wife and the girls for breakfast (Pastor had to work at the hamburger joint) at Denny’s. You know, where the Baconalia thing is going on? Well, I had the bacon breakfast. Two eggs, hash browns, bacon, bacon, bacon, and a side of bacon. Yummers.

MEG and I attended the birthday party of a young man from church – it was at Castles ‘N Coasters. A great day for the park. MEG was looking forward to the roller coaster. She kept begging me to take her on the roller coaster. Until the first loop, that is – then she was willing to wait a few years before she did that again. She had the height to ride, but not the upper body strength to keep her head up in the high-G sections. Other than that, she enjoyed the day, except for the waiting in line parts.

Mother’s day went well, except for the part where we, as a family, were going to pick out a couple of pretty things for TMBWitW (i try to avoid buying things for her without her knowing about it, no, there is no surprise, but the satisfaction rate is way up while the return rate is way down). That just never happened. Sunday evening we had dinner at Denny’s (i don’t know, it just worked out that way). I finished my dinner with a sundae.

A Maple Bacon Sundae.

Now, I am not one to avoid sweets very often. I love me a good sugar rush now and again.

However.

Oh, my goodness. I could not finish the sundae for all the sweet syrup and ice cream. Don’t get me wrong – I managed to find all the bits of bacon hidden in that frozen delicacy – but the syrup is just over the top.

I highly recommend the Maple Bacon Sundae for all your sugar rush needs!

So – What’s New?

May 2nd, 2011 . by Cary

Seems the incumbent pResident has managed to find a way to up his “macho” score, on the eve of the start of the campaign season. No, the 2012 campaign – really, he’s still campaigning from 2008, so he needs to update the year references on his materials, but still …

Funny how bin Laden suddenly gets on the US radar, and we suddenly have clearance to send in a SEAL team to take him out.

Funny how the Pakis, who have been claiming to be our allies in this war kinetic action on terror manmade disasters, are very upset that ObL is dead. And, in the middle of one of their most popular towns. Ohmygoodness, was that who was living there? I thought he was in a cave in the mountains, far away from any Paki forces …

O’Blivious’ campaign speech – err, announcement to the country – that bin Laden was dead, seemed to place him in an awkward position – here is a symbol of the islamic leadership, dead, and a faithful follower of islam has to announce that ObL is dead.

Funny how, after all the insults and desecration of the American Fighting Man by this piece of pig bait we suddenly have to “follow islamic custom” and bury the pig within 24 hours …

Personally, I think he should have been wrapped in pig skins and dropped in a vat of bacon drippings. But, that’s just me. So much for islamic custom.

Finally, just because bin Laden has been executed doesn’t mean that al-kaida is no more – actually, there are many members of that force who would be willing to step in and lead them. Like the ancient Hydra, another head will show up. And there is no guarantee that the new leader will be more or less like the old leader.

I do know this: God is on His throne, and He will win in the end.

The “Magic” is Wearing Thin

April 25th, 2011 . by Cary

Well, it seems that the “magic” is wearing thin on our fearful leader. Now he’s saying there is no “magic bullet” to bring down gas prices.

First off, when Reuters misquotes an article it is itself providing and writing the headline for, then you know the MSM is on shaky ground.

Second, yes, Mr. O’Blivious, there is a “magic bullet” to lower fuel prices – make it more conducive to gas and oil companies to drill on our own soil. Oddly enough, even announcing that there will be more drilling will lower the speculation levels, causing prices to start dropping, and allowing the pressure at the pump on Joe and Jane Worker to ease.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said in response to the president that the Obama administration over the past two years has “declared what can only be described as a war on American energy.”

“It’s canceled dozens of drilling leases, imposed a moratorium on drilling off the Gulf Coast and increased permit fees. It’s done just about everything it can to keep our own energy sector from growing,” McConnell said.

McConnell said more must be done to increase domestic oil production.

So, Mr. Resident, allow me to chamber a “magic bullet” into your arsenal of teleprompter-fed lines: “Today, I am instructing all involved agencies to reduce all costs for permits and filing fees for oil and gas exploration on United States soil, effective immediately. I fully expect all interested parties to begin drilling by the end of this summer.”

Not that any other president has ever taken my advice on how to shore up his reputation.

2322 MST

April 18th, 2011 . by Cary

Road Rhino has new struts in the front. Borrowed an impact driver, had to buy a set of metric impact sockets, but it’s done. Should be good until the mileage hits 300,000 now, since the last set lasted for 169,000.

I’m tired.
