Going From Bad To Worse

February 11th, 2007 . by Cary

This isn’t bad enough (from an e-mail from grassfire.org):

Imprisoned Border Agent Ignacio Ramos was assaulted and beaten in prison Saturday night following the airing of America’s Most Wanted, Ramos family members confirmed to Grassfire.org yesterday afternoon.

Agent Ramos told his wife, Monica, that he was kicked multiple times by up to five men with steel-toe boots, shouting profanities in Spanish and saying “Kill the Border Agent.” The family reported to us that he had extensive injuries, was bleeding from the ear and may not have received medical attention for up to 48 hours.

The story was first posted on Grassfire’s new FireSociety community. Go here for details, including my interview last night on L.A.’s flagship ABC radio station with Al Rantel.

Now, we have this (also from grassfire.org):

While Ron De Jong and I were presenting 304,000 citizen petitions to Rep. Rohrabacher on Capitol Hill, we were shocked when the Congressman informed us that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had admitted to members of Congress…

…that they had lied to Congress about the case against imprisoned agents Ramos and Compean.

Under questioning by Rep. Culberson, a DHS investigator admitted that his department did NOT have evidence to back up a number of outrageous claims including:

* Mexican/American agents Ramos and Compean “wanted to shoot a Mexican”;
* confessed to shooting an unarmed suspect;
* were belligerent to investigators;
* lied and submitted false reports;
* and stated during the investigation that the illegal alien did not pose a threat.

In addition, the DHS admitted that it began its prosecution
BEFORE completing their investigation!

So, first we have a case that should not have been in court – should, in fact, have been handled internally due to the agents not following procedures (imagine if YOU could be taken to federal court for not following procedures in YOUR job…). Second, the agents are held in GENERAL POPULATION with the very same people they were hired to keep out of the US in the first place. Third, the Department of Homeland Security (motto: we don’t want to offend anyone but our own) MAKES UP CHARGES that it then levels against agents of the Border Patrol.

Oh, yeah. We’re in good hands.

Friday Is Wear Red Day

Go here. Buy a shirt, wear it on Fridays, and declare your support for the troops.

Fix4RSO has a nifty little article on a “reporter” at the San Francisco Chronicle who has never served in the US Military or, it would appear, has heard of reasoned thinking. Check it out, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the read. I was a little short in the comments, but I am just so amazed at the very low level of understanding and comprehension exhibited by the majority of the media that it boggles my mind. My advice to the media is: If in doubt, ask someone who has served. Or, at least leave such “hard hitting” and “in-depth” reporting to someone who knows how to use the internet to research topics.

Slow Posting

February 7th, 2007 . by Cary

Sorry I haven’t been keeping everyone up to date – so here’s a bit of a catch-up post.

Saturday – TMBWitW, MEG, and I attended Glendale Chocolate Affaire, first to look around a bit, and second to do some preliminary name dropping. Two things became quickly clear – I needed to have a small business card to hand out to people, or they would never remember me, and second, the hopes I had for starting a Chocoholics Anonymous were dashed, for the simple reason that nobody wanted to quit.

Sunday – normal stuff here, went to church Sunday evening, then back home to wait out MEG falling asleep on her schedule…

Monday I got to talk to Jenn and Dave on My Point BlogRadio. Fun and hilarity ensued.

Since then, I’ve been job searching. And job searching. And job searching. No wonder I haven’t been posting!

This afternoon I got started on the pulpit for the new church, since the foundation was poured this week. Figured I might as well have that ready to go when the new church building opens.

Thanks for allowing me to indulge in some minor catching up.

No Theocracy!(?)

February 3rd, 2007 . by Cary

I am confused. Someone, please explain.

The party (Democrat) most associated with the group (Liberal) who decries the establishment of a theocracy in this country turns to – an imam? – to open the DNC meeting. (tip of the hat to Vanishing American for the heads-up)

Very good move, guys – ask the role models of theocracies to lead your choice for government in prayer. No, that doesn’t appear to conflict with your messages against nationally established religions at all. */sarcasm*

For the record – I believe in Freedom of Religion – as stated, not freedom FROM religion, as spouted by the more liberal members of our society. Establishing a theocracy (of any stripe) would defeat the Freedoms – not only of Religion, but Peaceable Assembly, Press, Speech, and Movement that we all enjoy now.

Don’t believe me? Ask any citizen of an islam-controlled nation how freely they may express their dissatisfaction with the leadership of their country.

Lord, show us all the error of our ways that we may better ourselves. Forgive us for being obstinate, and soften our hearts while opening our ears. Above all, Lord, Your will, not ours.

Cary, Are You Qualified To Be President?

February 2nd, 2007 . by Cary

According to this, I am.

I am at least 35 years old. (at least!)

I was born in the United States.

I have been a resident of the United States for at least fourteen years prior to the elections on November 4, 2008.

And, I’ve been getting increasingly upset about how the career politicians have been running this country into the ground.

Oh, wait – that last part isn’t in Article 2, is it? I think it should be an amendment, along with term limits for any representative. Like, two terms maximum. Lifetime, any party, any affiliation, any office. Pick the office you want to run for, and if elected, serve your time. Then get out and go back to being a citizen. Let another citizen-statesman step up to the plate. I personally feel this should be the case for any elected office, from President to State Mine Inspector.
