“What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value.”
–Thomas Paine, The American Crisis, No. 1, 1776

People ask me why I am so adamant about the Rights and Responsibilities of the citizens of this country. They ask why I am so fired up, after all, the government is going to take care of everything, right?
It’s because while I served, I didn’t pay the ultimate price – but I know plenty who did. Who still are willing. Who have, recently.
And, frankly, it pisses me off that MORE citizens aren’t upset that the government (I don’t care which administration, they are all doing the same thing now) is acting like they don’t have to answer to We, the People anymore. It pisses me off that it appears that so many “citizens” of this country aren’t taking the ultimate payment for freedom seriously – in fact, they seem to take it for granted.
I know too many who have paid dearly for me to live freely to take their payment for granted or lightly. It’s the least I can do – keeping their payment in the forefront of my mind.

“In Flander’s Fields” was composed by Lt Col (Dr) John McCrae on this date in 1915 as he stood over the grave of a fellow officer at Ypres.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Every year, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary sells paper poppies. Dad would always buy one or two, hanging them from his rear-view mirror in whatever vehicle he was driving. I have tried to keep that tradition going, although this year I have yet to see a paper poppy being offered anywhere, and last year’s poppy is getting sun-bleached in the windshield of the Road Rhino.

On this glorious Red Friday, we salute all the Veterans who have served throughout the years. I would like to extend a wish for an honorable Veteran’s Day to my friends and family who have served – if I tried to list every one of them, I would invariably miss one or two and I don’t want to let any of them think I don’t think about them.
I will be off-line until late Sunday afternoon – we are headed to Prescott’s Pine Summit Bible Camp for our annual church retreat. Try to be good while I’m gone, and don’t let the dog volunteer to go for pizza. Again.

Thank you for stopping by, In GOD We Trust, God bless you all, don’t buy or breed cats or dogs while homeless pets die (spay, neuter & adopt a pet, one by one, until there are none), Wear Red on Fridays, and support Warriors for Innocence!

As most of my readers know by know, I managed to mess up my knee. It’s called Derangement Meniscus, and it means the shock absorber between the tibia and the fibula (behind the knee cap, cartilage on the tibia) was traumatized. So far, no one has mentioned the “S” word, and I am hoping to avoid it altogether. Currently treatment involves elevation and alternating ice. Staying off the feet helps. Boss lady is accommodating, assigning things that can be accomplished while sitting down.
Pushing my luck, that is, trying to hurry the healing process, can/will result in permanent injury and surgery. This will greatly reduce my effectiveness when it comes to self-locomotion.
As much pain as this has meant, I realize how lucky I am.
I have two legs.
For the most part, they work like they are supposed to.
I can wiggle all ten of my toes.
Sure, I use crutches for now, but that’s just temporary.
I cannot express my thanks for those members of the armed forces who have given up so much of their lives for me.
