329. JAMES BRUCE - Fourth son of David Kellogg (205) and Elizabeth (Hollister) Cartter - b. 1-13-1815 - d. 10-30-1897 - m. Isadora Fitzgerald Swift 7-7-1855

James Bruce at age 13 went to live with his uncle due to his father's death. Here he learned the blacksmith and iron working trade. At 19 he moved to Utica, Michigan where he went into business with another, developing the Utica Iron Works. After nine years he moved on to Racine County in Wisconsin Territory where he farmed from 1843 to 1855; while there he served as a member of the first state Constitutional Convention. He moved to Jackson County in 1855 - was married and developed a large farm where he lived until his death in 1897.
